It is normal to be nervous about walking in the door for the first time. We will always do everything we can to help you feel comfortable & motivated. Be proud - and excited - that you're taking the first step! Before you know it you'll be diving in, making friends, and improving everyday.

What to Bring

  • Clean, breathable athletic wear (think runners/yoga clothing). Ideally, it will not have any pockets or zippers - this will help prevent injuries, scrapes, & cuts.

  • Water to stay hydrated!

What class will look like

  • Intro to BJJ class is structured like so: Warmups, instruction and drilling, and sparring (application of what you just learned)

  • You are not required to spar, and you’re welcome to stay and watch until you are comfortable doing so

Step 3: Decide which membership is best for you

We’ll work together on deciding which of our membership plans fits your goals and schedule the best!

What is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu?

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is a grappling martial art focused on controlling a resisting opponent, usually by pinning them or taking their back, then isolating their limbs or neck for a submission or making an opponent “tap out".”

A keynote of this sport is overcoming greater size, strength, and aggression with technique. This is done by utilizing superior leverage, grip, and position upon your opponent. Students of the sport gain a deep understanding of the workings and limits of the human body.

Our “Intro to BJJ” curriculum covers the major submissions, pinning positions, pin escapes, major guards, and guard passing.
