Kogaion Academy Competition Team Shines at Grappling Industries and IBJJF Charlotte
It was another busy competition weekend for the Kogaion Academy team, with athletes representing Arlington, VA at both Grappling Industries and IBJJF Charlotte. From first-time competitors to experienced tournament veterans, our students demonstrated technical jiu-jitsu, perseverance, and the willingness to challenge themselves against tough opposition.
Grappling Industries Results
Devon Earns Double Silver in Gi and No-Gi
Devon put together an outstanding performance, earning 2nd place in both gi and no-gi divisions. Across four matches, he showcased strong passing, smart decision-making, and plenty of offensive jiu-jitsu. His ability to consistently advance position and stay on the attack was a highlight of the day.
Rachel Steps Up Against Tough Competition
Rachel faced one of the toughest draws of the tournament, competing against a brown belt and a teenage athlete who has been training for more than 12 years. While the results don't always tell the whole story, we're incredibly proud of Rachel for embracing the challenge and stepping onto the mat against highly experienced opponents. Growth in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu comes from difficult matches, and Rachel represented Kogaion with courage and determination.
Will Captures Bronze and a Memorable Submission
Will earned 3rd place with a strong 4-1 record on the day. The standout moment came when he secured his first competition ankle lock, finishing the match with confidence and precision. It's always exciting to see athletes successfully apply techniques they've worked on in training under tournament pressure.
Nick Wins Gold After Five Grueling Matches
Nick put together one of the most impressive performances of the weekend, battling through five matches in just two hours. Despite the demanding pace, he stayed composed, continued to push the action, and ultimately earned gold medal honors.
IBJJF Charlotte Open Results

Johnny Earns Silver Medal
